Way to go Mom! She just heard that her quilt was accepted in the Benartex "Quiltmaker's Gift Challenge." So two years in a row, Mom will have a quilt in the big show in Houston. Last year her September 11 quilt was in the "America: From the Heart" display and is now touring with that collection, as well as being in the book of the same name by C&T.Friday, August 30, 2002 Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday!Thursday, August 29, 2002 One of my quilts is touring in a collection called "Roots of Racism: Ignorance and Fear." It's currently on display in Atlanta GA and there's a great article in the Atlanta Journal Constitution about the show. Especially exciting to me:Tuesday, August 27, 2002The traditional repeat-pattern quilts in this show are generally quite successful artistically in addition to making pointed observations about the perception of difference. An excellent example is "Warp, Weft, Rift" by Mary Beth Goodman, who wove broad strips of raw-edged fabric, using warm hues for the warp and cool ones for the weft. She then attached the woven block to a quilted black background, stretching it out of line in three spots to create large concentrically stitched circles. In an otherwise predictable design, these circles impart an ominous tone solely because they depart from the rigidity of the grid. So, do you want to see me in my "jaguar" skirt? How about a photo of Ron in a yellow hawaiian shirt? The president of the Mac Users Group in Oneonta took these photos of the Jaguar pre-release party at Crossgates Mall.Sunday, August 25, 2002 ooooooooh Beethoven's Ninth Symphony courtesy of the BSO @ Tanglewood and WAMC. Who could ask for a better Sunday afternoon? |
