NYQuilts! - New Quilt Show in New York State
2000 Show - June 3-4, 2000
When our date for the show moved to June for 2000, we were torn between
celebrating the turn of the calendar to 2000 and having a bridal theme.
So we did both - "Something Old, Something New and Maybe Something
Blue." Our judges had a broad range of quilts theme and otherwise
to judge - Mary K. Ryan and Kathy Riley did the honors.
Mary Wirchansky was our Featured Quilter at NYQuilts! Mary displayed
a wonderful group of quilts including "The Lord GaveYet Another Spring."
This quilt had won "viewers' choice" at the 1997 award and many
people were still talking about it as that "Old Lady" quilt.
Mary gave presentations both days about her quilts and how she works.
Also being exhibited were: part of the new Hoffman Challenge wall hangings;
two "Slice" quilts from an internet challenge; and a group of
quilts called "Stretching Tradition 2" from another online group.
We had "The Bride" by Linda Pool which definitely stopped folks
in their tracks. A nice selection of antique quilts rounded out the mix,
along with our collection of classroom quilts.
Our annual block challenge this year matched our theme.
Classes were offered by Irma Gail Hatcher and Barbara Garrett. Lectures
were given by Barbara and Kris Driessen.
Stewart's, a local ice cream and convenient store, donated make-your-own
sundaes which were enjoyed by the folks who attended the Saturday night
show and tell. Our show and tell was very lovely with quilts in progress,
a few quilts with personal stories, some new techniques to share and a
special sneak preview of Irma Gail's garment for the next Fairfield Fashion
Show.
And of course we went, we saw, we shopped at the vendors!
Our tshirts and tote bags were emblazoned with "Turn of the Century
Quilter." The T's were of course BLUE!
