2001 Quilt Show Registration - cash prizes!

Rules and Information

The show is open to any quilter, regardless of where (s)he resides. Quilts and quilted clothing may be entered, provided it wasn’t shown at a previous NYQuilts! show. It does not need to have been completed in the 2000-2001 year.

Each person is limited to two entries: one bed quilt and one wallhanging or clothing; OR two wallhangings or clothing ensembles. All entries must be submitted on separate registration forms. A quilter who is participating in a group quilt may also enter up to two pieces as an individual.

Special theme contest for this year:
2001: A Quilt Odyssey.
Entries may be any size and use any technique. To qualify for the theme contest, the entrant must also submit a 4 X 6 photograph of her/his first or early quilt along with a brief statement of the entrant’s quilt odyssey. The photograph and statements should be submitted with the registration form.

One or both of your entries may be designated for theme contest consideration. A special award will be given for the theme quilt with the highest score. Your quilts do not have to be theme-related to be entered in NYQuilts!

Entries will be accepted on a first come basis as display space allows. Entries may be postmarked on or after January 15 and no later than April 1, 2001. Notification and further information will be sent after April 15, 2001.

All entries will be judged, while hanging, prior to the opening of the show. The judges will evaluate each entry on the basis of a 100 point system outlined at right. Each entry will be evaluated on its own merits according to the point system regardless of the category in which it is entered, and ribbons are awarded on the basis of points earned.

Accordingly, no category is guaranteed a ribbon winner. Conversely, any category may have more than one winner.

The judges for this year’s show are Mary K. Ryan of Rutland VT and Kathy Riley of Holbrook, NY.

Change this year:

Tied quilts will be accepted only if they qualify in the Beginner or Youth Categories or if a crazy quilt.

All entries must be completed by May 11, 2001. No works in progress will be hung. Entries must be available for hanging from May 16, 2001 to May 20, 2001

NYQuilts! will provide security and insurance up to $1000 per quilt during the show. If the value exceeds $1000, the entrant is responsible for obtaining additional coverage.

All entries may be photographed by NYQuilts! staff, show attendees and the media and submission of an entry constitutes permission to do so.

Entrants are responsible for shipping fees to and from NYQuilts

These prizes will be awarded on the basis of points earned, except for Viewers Choice, which is the quilt receiving the most votes from show attendees.

Include the following with your registration form:

A $15.00 entry fee for the first item entered and $10 for the second item. Make checks (drawn on U.S. banks) payable to NYQuilts! Travelers checks and international money orders are also accepted. In the event that your entry is not accepted, your fee will be refunded. If your entry is accepted but you withdraw the quilt prior to the show, all fees are forfeited. The entry fee covers the cost of judging and ribbons, insurance, admission to the show and two tickets to the opening preview on May 18, 2001.

A color photograph (no slides) of your entry. Please write your name, the entry's name and its size on the back. The photo is for identification purposes and to help organize the most effective display. The entry need not be finished at the time the photo is taken. We regret that photos cannot be returned.

A legal-sized, self-addressed stamped envelope for confirmation of acceptance.

Postmark your entry between January 15 and April 1, 2001

To download the forms, be sure to size your browser screen so that the lines by "Please describe your quilt....." (Form page 1) and "Describe your inspiration...." (Form page 2) do not break into two lines and so that each page fits exactly into one page. YOU MUST FILL OUT AND MAIL IN BOTH FORMS IN ORDER TO ENTER A QUILT.
