Biographical Information

Mary Beth has been quilting since the early 1980’s and entering quilt shows and competitions since about 1990.. She works both using traditional patterns and more free-form designs and enjoys using color and texture to create dimension and movement in her works. Her current quilts are predominantly and heavily machine-quilted.

Mary Beth is currently curating a collection of 28 quilts on the topic of child abuse, which have been traveling to events since 1999. These quilts were made by online quilters and have been seen in Japan and Canada as well as in the United States. The quilts will continue touring until the end of 2001.

She is also represented in a collection of quilts that is currently touring on the topic of racism, and is web master for a site showing these quilts. This show debuted in Memphis TN in September 2000.

A co-founder of a local quilt group, East Side Quilters in Rensselaer County, Mary Beth is also co-founder and president of NYQuilts!, a non-profit annual quilt show held in Troy, NY. She enjoys being a part of the online community of quilters, actively participating in both the QuiltArt mailing list and a smaller group of 35 quilters from across the world. She uses the web to show her design and creation process and to share her finished work with others.

Recently employed by Lycos, Inc. in Williamstown Mass as a Membership Guru and Volunteer Manager, Mary Beth is currently quilting full-time and exploring other career options. She shares her life with her husband Ron and seven cats in Brainard NY, in southeastern Rensselaer County. She has been known to doodle quilt designs on the paper table coverings at the local pizza place.
Organization Experience

NYQuilts! 1995 to Present
Co-founder, President
  • Regional quilt show, held annually since 1996. Initially responsible for site selection, coordinating efforts of committees, publicity, fund raising. Show presents over 200 quilts and workshops and lectures
  • Steady growth in attendance since incorporating as non-profit for 1997 show.
  • Prepared successful grant application for purchase of display racks.
  • Act as ambassador to show, doing grassroots publicity and attracting both quilt collections for display and participants.
  • Work with committee and other volunteers to plan and prepare show and determine future directions.
East Side Quilters
1992 to Present
  • Established quilt group in Southern Rensselaer County, NY with a membership of almost 40 members.
Co-founder and Past President
  • In its first year, this group produced a raffle quilt which raised #$1700 for a local library. The group continues to make quilts given to local social service organizations
