We can't do it without the Volunteers!

How can you help NYQuilts! ?

Besides entering a quilt or two in the show and coming to the show and bringing your friends, or signing up for classes, won't you help by signing up for one or more of the jobs below? Perhaps you can help with the wish list at the bottom!

We welcome your help and the help of your friends and family members - especially those teenage sons and daughters- and especially at set up and closing.

We don't ask for all volunteers to come to monthly meetings - whatever you can do to help is very appreciated. You're welcome to come if you need a night away from the family but if you can commit to a single job once a year that's great!

Be a quilt guild/group contact

We need people who will make sure that our information gets to your guild. With change of officers etc, it is sometimes difficult to keep our mailing list up to date. Help us know the right address, the right dates for your show etc.

Help us set up

(What's it look like?)

We move the quilt racks on the Tuesday after work or Wednesday morning. (This takes about one hour.) We place them on the floor so that they are ready for the next step. (This takes about 3 - 4 hours)

On Thursday morning the set up crew starts hanging quilts, followed by the judges/scribes who start doing the judging. We start hanging around 8 am with the arrival of the quilts, and judging starts around 10 am.

Friday, set up continues and the vendors arrive.

We need help setting up classrooms and helping set up teacher and judges dorm rooms.

Help us

take down

the show!

What goes up, must come down. Quilts come down and are packed under the supervision of the quilt registrar, who also supervises return of quilts to people picking them up. Racks are packed back into the truck and brought back to storage.

Take down begins shortly after the close of the show and goes surprisingly fast. We're generally ready to leave the building within 2 hours after close!

Then we drive to the storage place and unload the quilt racks.

If we have enough vans, a separate contingent of volunteers help return remaining quilts to the registrar's house. Having use of your van or station wagon and you as a driver would be a big help here.

We give volunteers who do two hours of work during set up, show or take down the show pin as a token of our appreciation. We also have a drawing for special awards.

Most importantly though, we give you a hearty

THANK YOU for helping to make NYQuilts! happen!
